A FRENCH TRAGEDY.
SIMILARITY TO CRIPPEN CASE. Paris, Thursday. Victor Gaubert has been arrested for the murder of his wife Eliza at the village of Lappene, near Marseilles, under circumstances resembling those of the Crippeu case.
Eliza Gaubert disappeared in October, her husband alleging that she had gone to Mauritius. Later he announced her death, and married Antonio Sidolles, a village girl. The pair left home, and during the carrying out of some repairs to the house, workmen noticed that the tiles in the scullery were uneven. Investigation revealed the body of Eliza Gaubert.
Gaubert states that he and his wife had a violent altercation over the girl Antonio. His wife suddenly dropped dead, and fearing arrest he buried her body.
