A tourist who drove his car from Awakino to Te Kuiti the other day, frightened a year’s growth out of the live stock of that district, human as well as animal. He is said to have occasioned no less than six accidents on the route, besides frightening everybody he encountered. He caused a settler’s horse to take fright, so that its rider had a narrow escape from being thrown over a cliff. Then after he left Mahoenui he ran into a horse and gig. The two lady occupants, according to the account, were thrown out and badly hurt, one being taken to a private hospital in Te Kuiti. The gig is said to have been smashed to pieces. Pursuing his career, eight miles further on the motorist ran into the leaders attached to the mail coach, and broke the pole. The destructive individual was accompanied by a lady, and both appeared to enjoy the havoc they created immensely, but as a prosecution is impending against them, their fun is likely to cost them something.
