THE CORONATION HALL.

At last night’s Council meeting four tenders were received for the erection of the Coronation Hall. The tenders were dealt with in committee. On resuming business it was decided, on the motion of Cr Gibbs, seconded byCr Ross, that the tender of P. Sherratt and Co. be accepted for the erection of hall and removal of cottage. The amounts of the different tenders received will be published as soon as the contract is signed.
PERMANENT PICTURE SHOW
Mr L. Brooks, manager of the New Zealand Picture Company, wrote accepting the Council’s offer re hall, and stated he would be glad to complete ■ arrangements on receipt of lull particulars.
The offer referred to in Mr Brooks’ letter was the option of taking the hall, when erected, for two nights per week for twelve months.
It was decided on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr Coley, that a committee of the whole Council be formed to draw up an agreement between the New Zealand Picture Company and the Council. The committee to meet on April 24th. THK OPENING NIGHT.
The Secretary of the local Amateur Dramatic Society wrote asking for the opening night of the new hall.
Cr Stewart moved that the application of the Foxton Dramatic Society be deferred to a later period for consideration. The motion was seconded by Cr Speirs. In speaking to the motion Cr Stewart said there was no hurry at the present time to let the hall tor the opening night. He thought it would be better to have something of a more public nature than an entertainment by the local amateurs. A free ball to citizens and ratepayers would be more suitable.
Cr Adams regretted that a more definite answer than the one suggested could not be given to the Society. He suggested offering to allow (hem the first playing night. The Mayor said he had no desire to do the Dramatic Society out of the first night, and he was quite prepared to grant the date, provided the Council could not utilise it to better advantage. If the Council did not make use of it on the first night, then he considered the Dramatic Society should get it, theirs being the first tionThe motion was carried. TUIi DROl’ CURTAINMr P. Lumsdeu wrote asking if it was the Council’s intention to sell spaces on the drop curtain for advertising purposes, and if so asking that the centre space be reserved for the Manawatu Hotel, provided the price was not too high. Resolved on the motion of Cr Rimmer, seconded by Cr Coley, that the application be held over until a later date.
