WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the above was held on Thursday night. Present Messrs Fred. Pirani (chairman), F'. Purnell, D. H. Guthrie, M.P., J. P. Aldridge, K. Dixon, F. M. Spurdle and Alf. Fraser.
A number ot applications for promotion and transfer were referred to the Chief Inspector. The Education Department forwarded a grant of ,£1125 for the erection of bathrooms, etc., at certain specified residences.
The Chairman’s action iu ordering the prosecution of a parent who had disturbed the Longburn school was endorsed.
In reply to a teacher’s question regarding pupils’ exemption lor music lessons, it was pointed out that the Act did not provide for exemption in such cases. Tenders were accepted as follows : Glen Oroua residence, A. A. Thompson, ,£377; Kairanga residence, Union Timber Co., ,£175. Tenders received for Meremere residence and Mangaweka washhouse were declined, being too high. Leave of absence was granted to Miss M. Miller, Miss H. Henson, Miss E. Willetts, Mr L. V. Corpe, Mr A. Cameron, Miss M. Ray, Miss K. Billeus, Miss I. Young, Miss E. King, Miss E. Blennerhasselt, Mr W. A. Lyon, Miss M. D. Alexander.

The following schools were closed on account of measles or scarlatina : Normauby, Opaku, Mere Mere, Taihape, and Raetihi. It was decided that when schools are temporarily closed teachers must report themselves to the Board and be available for relieving work, attendance at observation schools, etc., as the Board may direct.
