IN the matter of a scandal that has been widely circulated concerning me, to the effect that I was discovered in my Otaki store on a certain Sunday night, last winter, with a certain young lady, I, Byron Brown, of Otaki, having utterly failed to discover the originators of the story, caused to be set up a tribunal of six reputable gentlemen to enquire into the facts. The prosecution was invited by advertisement in two issues of the Otaki Mail to come forward and give evidence.
