SENSATIONAL FIRE.

A PERIOD OF SUSPENSE

Early yesterday afternoon the residence of Mr G. Pagett, at Fitzherbert East, was destroyed by fire, and Mr Pagett himself was missing. He took milk to the creamery in the morning, and it was supposed that on returning he went to sleep in the house and perbhed in the flames. Mrs Pagett was in Palmerston at the time of the outbreak, and only learnt of the occurrence from the police after the house was destroyed. A constable conducted a search of the ruins, and was assisted by the neighbours, but shortly alter the supposed victim turned up, having been down at the river bed, and a period of painful suspense, particularly for Mrs Pagett, was fortunately ended.
