PUBLIC NOTICE. IN the matter of a scandal that has been widely circulated concerning me, to the effect that I was discovered in my Otaki store on a certain Sunday night, last winter, with a certain young lady, I, Byron Brown, of Otaki, having utterly failed to discover the originators of the story, caused to be set up a tribunal of six reputable gentlemen to enquire into the facts. The prosecution was invited by advertisement in two issues of the Otaki Mail to come forward and give evidence. The committee sat on Monday, March 20th, at 8 p.m., at the office of Messrs Kirk and Stevens, Otaki. At the appointed hour there was no appearance of the prosecution, and after waiting 20 minutes the defence was heard. Four witnesses were examined on oath, and the findings of that committee are as follows : “We the undersigned, being a committee set up for the purpose of enquiring into the alleged misbehaviour of Mr Byron Brown with a certain young lady, and having thoroughly investigated the said allegations, do .unanimously and unhesitatingly declare on positive proof, that such charges have not the slightest foundation in fact.” Dated this 2oth day of March, 1911. (Signed)— J. G. STEVENS, Chairman. CECIL SMITH, Anglican Vicar. FREDERICK RANDS, Wesleyan Minister. GEO. H. HARPER, Solicitor. ROBERT J. ST AVELEY, Solicitor. T. O’ROURKE, Civil Servant.
