DEATH OF A BOXER.
A CROOKED MATCH. Sydnkv, March 16. A boxing bout at Waterloo, one of the suburbs of Sydney, last night had a fatal termination. Jack Whittaker floored Vic. Jacobson, who struck his head on the boards and was rendered unconscious. Jacobson died to-day. Both men were heavy-weights. Whittaker’s second states that it was definitely arranged before the tight that Jacobson should lose, and he had wagered to that effect. The manner in which the light went on indicated that this was true, deceased falling for the slightest blows in order to waste lime. Neither man gave a decent hit. In the thirteenth round Jacobson tell and fractured his skull on the floor, and did not regain consciousness. It is said that Whittaker had undertaken to slop his opponent in fifteen rounds or lose. Whittaker and the officials conducting the fight have been I arrested.
