SKETCH OF FRONT ELEVATION OF PROPOSED TOWN HALL.

The above illustration is a reproduction of a sketch of the front elevation of the proposed Town Hall (a loan for the erection of which will be placed before the ratepayers to-morrow). The illustration does not include the whole of the front portion of the main building (at the left-hand corner). This portion is a one-storied building containing a wide passage, serving as a covered-in escape passage and also giving access to dining-room adjoining. Tin's dining room is 40ft. long by 22ft. wide, with servery and kitchen attached, also sitting-room for the performers. The architecture, although not elaborate, will be imposing. The front of the building is ornamented with cornices, pillasters and portico, carried by pillars, with balcony over, surrounded with railing, also ballnsters. The building is entered by a large entrance hall, from which doors lead to cloak rooms, manager’s room and stalls. A ticket office is situated immediately to the left of the main entrance and a wide staircase from the centre of entrance hall leads to the dress circle, the landing of this stair continues across the full width of building and at the centre merges with a large lounge communicating with balcony over porch by two pairs of French doors ; two additional cloak rooms are situated on this floor, one on each side of lounge. The interior consists of an auditorium, <><Sft. by 52ft., comprising stalls and dress circle with a combined seating capacity of 714 persons ; stage, 52ft. by .30ft.,and provided with six dressing-rooms. Ample fire escapes are provided for both auditorium and stage.
