The Australian Cup, run in connection with the Victoria Racing Club’s Autumn Meeting, has totalled eighteen accepted horses. Auckland “ Sport,” referring to the Foxton Club’s intention to lay off and construct a steeplechase track, says: “In these days when there is so much talk of the complete defunction of racing, and when the chances seem hopeless of any racing club gaining an extra permit per year, the Foxton Racing Club are deserving of sincere commendation for the outlay ot finance from which they cannot hope to reap a racing reward. However, it is to be hoped the construction ot their steeplechase track will have the desired effect of bringing additional racing teams to their rendezvous. Palmerston North centre is without a thoroughly - formed steeplechase track, and the seasiders deserve to reap their just reward for their thoughtfulness.”
