It was time some action was taken in the matter. The Comity engineer stated that a request had been received from the Inspector of Noxious Weeds to leave the thistles iu this particular place alone, as some Wanganui firm had a patent to exterminate the weed, and he thought it would be a good place for a public trial. Cr Stephenson ; Well, I think something should be done. The thistle is iu flower now, and it is simply blowing seed all over the place. The County Engineer pointed out that certain settlers had been communicated with iu regard to pennyroyal, and the result was that nearly all this weed had been pulled up. Cr Stephenson : It is getting all over the roads. The Engineer ; Go up to the Otaki Gorge. I think you will And it thicxer there than iu any part of the country. Cr Richards : I hope you don’t mean to exterminate fat hen! The chairman (Cr Freeman): There will be no harm in again writing to the inspector on the matter. The clerk was accordingly instructed to communicate with the inspector on the subject.
