FOXTON-SANSON TRAMWAY EXTENSION.
IMFORTANT CONFKRKNCK AT MARTON.
Au important conference of representatives of local bodies between Foxton and Ohakune interested in the extension of the Foxton tramway from Sanson to Martou to connect with the railway at that point, was held at Martou to-day. Among those present were Messrs Guthrie and Newman, M’s.P. Au apology for absence was received from Air R. Smith, M.P. for Rangitikei. Mr J. G. Wilson, chairman of the Manawatu County Council, presided, and outlined the objects for which the conference had been convened.
After a lengthy discussion, the following resolutions were carried unanimously :
‘‘ That in the opinion of this meeting, the Sanson tramway should be extended to connect at Martou, and every effort should be made in this direction.” ‘‘That a committee be formed to further the object of this meeting, with power to convene public meetings, and prepare petitions and canvass for signatures, and collect funds, and generally to take such steps as they deem necessary to further the object of the previous resolution and the-extension of light railways generally ; and that the Rocal Bodies and Chambers of Commerce in this district extending from Foxton to Ohakune be invited to appoint one member to represent them on such committee, and that the Ms’.P. of the district interested be ex-officio members of such committee ; and that the Alauawatu County Council convene the first meeting,”
