TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.
The Town Clerk reported as follows on the various works, in the Borough lor the past month, at last night's Council meeting . During the earlier part of the mouth the men were employed in finishing the work in the cemete.-y, in.-,e; !ng the road grade, fascinm B ui cuttings, trimming trees, etc. For the past fortnight they have been engaged on Johnston street culling, which turned out a very ugly job, owing to slips caused by' the rotten nature of the sand hill, and which was made considerably worse by the telegraph linesmen placing a telegraph post right in the centre, which has since been removed to a position further back, but is still unsafe, and requires to be again shifted. I got as many members of the Public Works Committee as possible at short notice to consider the position, aud they decided that the bottom of the hill should be timbered, and instructed me to get Mr Percy Sherratt to carry out the work with the assistance ol the day-men, which has been done. The mouth has been a most disastrous one for the roads, owing to the extremely dry weather experienced. 1 think the roads of tue Borough are now iu a worse stale than at any previous lime within the past ten years, aud very little can be done until we get some rain to set the roads down again.
