A ROYAL VISITOR.
Prince Leopold of Battenberg, accompanied by Dr MTlroy, returned to Wellington by the Mapourika from Westport late on Saturday evening. Since leaving Wellington on January ,23rd, the Prince has made an extended journey in the South Island. He proceeded first to Christchurch, where, with his party, he made a stay of a week. F'rom Christchurch the Prince proceeded to Reelton, making the journey through the Otira Gorge by coach. Coaching from Reef ton to Westport through the Duller Gorge, Prince Leopold and his party joined the Mapourika at the latter port. The Prince was very much impressed by the scenery in the gorges and other natural beauties which he encountered during his journey, ,i.i i saved freely that he had seen nothing finer at any point in his travels.
Yesterday be left by Main Trunk express for Waiouru, en route for Kotorua and Auckland. The party will leave the express at Waiouru, proceeding by coach to Tokaanu, and thence across the lake to Taupo. Reaching the Wairakei Valley to-day, the party will spend one or two days there, and then journey by way of Waimangu to Rotorua, where it is intended to spend three days. Prince Leopold will leave Auckland on February 15th by the P. and O. liner Macedonia, for Sydney. From Sydney he will sail by the Japan Company’s Nikeu Maru on Wednesday, February 22nd, for China. It is anticipated that the Prince will return to England about the end of the first week iu June.
