SERIOUS FATAL ACCIDENT.

THREE MEN KILLED. BU'Nukim, January 30. A serious accident occurred on Saturday at Nydia Bay, seventeen miles northward of Havelock, on Peloruus Sound, resulting in the death of three men- Those killed were William O’Brien, George Anderson, and John Corliss. The victims of the accident, who were employees at the Opouri sawmills, were engaged with two others in hauling limber from the bush on a tramway, a locomotive supplying the haulage. There is a serious incline at one point of the line, and when negotiating this the driver, Birse, lost control of the engine, which, impelled by the weight of the huge logs behind, gained momentum at every yard, swaying so much that the wheels soon left the rails. The engine crashed into the stump of a ti e, nu t was completely destroyed, pinning Corliss, O’Brien and Anderson underneath. They were badly crushed, and the escaping steam added to their sufferings. They were scalded to death. Climo and Berse were thrown away from the engine with conisderable force, and received severe injuries, the nature of which has not been ascertainable. They were immediately removed to the Havelock hospital, the bodies of the dead being also conveyed to the township.
