ALL SAINTS’ SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC.
The above picnic was held yesterday at the pretty residence of Mr W. Barber, at Motuiti. About a hundred were taken out in coaches and drays, kindly lent by Messrs Wyeth, Coley, Cook and Robinson. The teachers, with many willing helpers, did all they could to make the little ones happy. Mr Llewelyn Jeuks had charge of the sports, and prizes were won by the successful competitors. One most interesting feature of the picnic was the motor rides given by Mr Gibbs, cn the lawn. Whenever the car stopped the children thronged it, some fifty or sixty trying to secure a seat, and for the moment the excitement was intense. The children highly appreciated the kindness of Mr Gibbs and his willingness to please them will long be remembered. As usual there was an abundance of good things and the children did justice to them by eating all up. At the close, the vicar called on the children to give three cheers for Mr and Mrs Barber, who had put themselves out to give them such an enjoyable time; swings had been put up among the trees and the whole garden had been placed at their disposal. He also called for three cheers for the teachers and all others who had helped in the day’s amusement. The little ones arrived back in town about 5 o'clock, tired and happy, and many of them will look back on their day’s visit to Motuiti as among the most enjoyable days they have spent.
