IN NEW GUINEA.
QUEER TRIBES. The German Government yacht Delphin, which arrived at Brisbane from Rabaul a couple of weeks ago, brought news that recently the natives on Rye coast, New Guinea, between FriedttchsWilhelmshaven and Stephenhaven, attacked a trading station, murdering some native boys. Native troops with marine guns destroyed the villages, the natives having fled on the approach of the punitive expedition. Members of the German expedition exploring inland came across a dwarf tribe of natives, who, from accounts, gave the trespassers on their country a warm reception. An officer of the Delphin said the little men were in trees, and fired arrows from bows at the expedition, the members ot which had to use their guns in self-defence. In the mountains the expedition came suddenly across a valley, which was found to be thickly populated by unknown natives, who were quite nude. The savages were armed with bows and arrows and stone axes. The savages gave the members of the expedition peace-offerings, and took them to their native village, the huts of which were raised roft from the ground.
