THE GAS WORKS.

REPORT ON WORKING. At Monday night’s Council meeting the Town Clerk furnished the following report on the working of the gas works : —“ During the month of December, 197,000 feet of gas was made, being at the rate of 6,355 feet P er day- O' l6 hundred and forty-six thousand six hundred feet of gas was sold to consumers. Two hundred and nine gallons of tar and 11 tons of coke were also made. The expenditure for the three mouths ended December 31st, on working account was £342 14s Bd, which amount includes interest and sinking fund, whilst the receipts totalled £279 ns 3d, leaving a debit balance of £63 3s 3d for the quarter. The receipts on capital account are £II,OOO, and the expenditure £9553 3s 2d, the chief items being purchase of works £9OOO, interest and exchange £B9 is 2d, stamp duty £56 6s 6d, legal costs £43 15s, coal reserve £4O ns pd, stock £230 7s lod, gas fittings, mantles, pipes, stoves, weigh-bridge, etc., £73 10s 7d, and cost of raising loan £27 10s. Other payments to be made are: Coal shed and fence £IOB ss, first year’s interest and sinking fund £7*s, totalling ,£10,373 3s 2d, leaving available for retort and extension ,£626 16s rod.
