NOTIvS. Lochiel is the only horse that has won the Auckland and New Zealand Cups in the same season. Sir Frisco is doing some good work on the Levin tracks in preparation for the approaching local meeting. Racing in the Dominion will be very quiet until the Wellington and the local meetings on the 21st inst. Adjustments for the first day’s handicap events at the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting are due to-morrow. Under the new Gaming Act, the Stratford Racing Club had to pay ,£395 lotalisator tax, as against ,£lB5 the previous year. •*~iThe first horse to pass the judge’s box in the Auckland Cup was Paisano, it but had parted with its rider before reaching that point. The locally owned horse Walpaku is doing some excellent training on the track, and all going well the mare will fulfiil her Wellington Cup engagements. The Conqueror gelding Naumai has been handed to Fred Carmont at Levin to prepare for his future racing career. The bay will be a competitor at the local meeting. At the forthcoming meeting of the Wellington Racing Club, Mr Geo. Clifford will be well represented, having eight horses competing at the meeting. Mr “Alf” Wright, the local trainer, has a useful team In preparation for the coming meeting. In The Rover and Puketotara, “Alf” has a pair that should soon be seen to advantage. Teotaue is in steady work on the Levin tracks, and has fully recovered from his propensity to bleed at the nostrils. The chestnut will be a competitor at the coming meeting. The proposed meeting of the Shannon Hack Racing Club has fallen through. The Minister for Internal Affairs could not see his way clear to grant the permit, as the course was said to be unsafe. L. H. Hewitt, the ex-New Zealand jockey, was second on the list of winning jockeys in AustriaHungary last season, his total of victories being 67. B. Carslake, the Victorian rider, was third with 63 wins. F. Prelzner was the leading jockey with 74 wins, Mr M. Smith, the well-known popular sportsman, has a promising turf aspirant in a two-year-old filly by Renowu from Astraea. The chestnut tor whom the name Asteruown has been claimed, will probably be a competitor in the Maiden Scurry at the local meeting.
