MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Moutoa Drainage Board was held in the Board’s office last night. Present: —Messrs B. G. Gower (chairman), W. S. Carter, H. G. Hammond and O. Robinson. The clerk reported the amount to credit of loan account current at 3s, and to general account 4s 1 id. Wages amounting to ,£26 17s Bd, and Algar were paid on December 23rd. Accounts amounting to 10s id were passed for payment against loan account, and 5s lod against general account. The engineer reported on the progress of the dredging work since last meeting as follows : The total number of days worked was and during that time 139 yards was done, being at th rate of 1.19 yards per hour, which is slightly in excess of last month’s work. The days on which no work was done comprise two holidays, one wet day, one day on which the driver was away, and four days were spent in overhauling and repairing the machinery of the crane. The width of the drain is now reduced to 30 feet, and work will commence next week at this width. Considerable delay is caused by the dirty state of the water, and I recommend that enquiries be made irom persons having horses and drays in order that clean water be carted twice a day for the boiler. I also suggest that tenders be invited for cleaning out the present length of drain dredged, dividing the work in two sections, viz., from the river to the road, and from the road to a little beyond Nye’s bridge. The total length required to be done is 41 chains. Dealing with the engineer's report, it was decided to invite tenders as suggested for cleaning the dredged portion of the big drain, tenders to close on the 19th inst. The clerk was also instructed to get prices from carriers for supplying clean water for the dredge twice daily. Only two tenders were received for the construction of the stop bank at Duck Creek, and as these were considered too high it was decided to invite Iresh tenders to close on the 19th instant. No tenders were received for the Moutoa slop bank, as the specifications are not yet complete, and tenders for this work will be invited to close at the same time as the other tenders. The Board rose at 9.15 p.m.
