CORRESPONDENCE.
j (To the Kditor). j Sik, —I read with interest Dr j Martin’s report to the Palmerston I N- Hospital Board re purchase of ' radium for the Hospital. The ! best thanks of the public are due ! to that gentleman lor his interest I in the matter, and 1 have little i doubt that if an appeal for funds | towards this important object is ■' made in this district it will meet ! with cordial support, that is if the | generosity of the public has not ; already been drained olf by the i unmerciful persistence with which subscription-listers have been pestering them, and very often for j purposes of little or no value. The object which Dr Martin advocates is one of the most urgent that could possibly be put before the public, and it is earnestly to be hoped that il will be achieved. If those people who are always worrying the public to contribute towards all sorts of trivial and ! temporary objects would expend their energies in furthering matters of such extreme importance as the cure of disease and the relief of suffering they would achieve something of real value. Dr Martin says he is ambitious about the scheme, and I hope such an excellent ambition will meet with a worthy support from this part of the district. Apart from its value to the country, such support would be a just recognition of the disinterested trouble and valuable investigation Dr Martin has already undertaken in the matter. —I am, etc,, AI’I’ROVKK.
