BIG FIRE IN DUNEDIN.
Dunedin, December 22. A disastrous fire broke out shortly before 9 o’clock this evening in the Otago A, and P. Society’s big block of buildings, and resulted in the structure being completely gutted. The building was comprised of four brick walls extending from Crawford street through to Vogel Street, and having a frontage of about 70yds. The upper portion, where the fire started, comprised the Brydone Mail and skating rink. Half the lower floor was occupied-by John Chambers and Son, machinery agents, with stock valued at about ,£15,000, which is a total loss. The other half was occupied by Waters, Ritchie and Co., grain, seed and wool merchants, who carried about /500 c worth of stock, also a total loss. The Otago A. and P. Society, Bray Bros., National Electric and Engineering Co., John Chambers, Harraways and Clark, and MacAra’s offices were in front of the building.
