On the second day of the Woodville meeting the locally-owned, Notorious broke a fetlock joint, and had to be destroyed. The accident occurred in the Summer Handicap in which Notorious was in the lead and galloping well, and according to good judges had an excellent chance of pulling off. The horse was pulled up and walked to a plantation just below the grandstand where a bullet put an end to a very useful career. Notorious was owned by Mrs E. M. Robinson, of Foxton, who has sustained a very serious loss through his having to be destroyed. He was racing particularly well this season, and scored wins at the Otaki, Levin and Waverley meetings.
