OBITUARY.
——♦ MRS M. A. AUSTIN. Word was received in Foxtou on Tuesday night announcing the death, at Onehunga, that evening, of another of Foxtou’s old and highly respected citizens in the person of Mrs M. A. Austin at the ripe age of 72 years and seven months. The deceased lady’s relativesand friends were aware some lime back that the end was approaching. Up to about two years ago the late Mrs Austin enjoyed splendid health vvheu an internal trouble necessitated an operation. The operation was successful and for a time all trace of the trouble disappeared but latterly again made its appearance, culminating in her death. During the past few months she bore her suffering with Christian fortitude and uncomplainingly and was surrounded and tended by members of her family. The late Mrs Austin’s husband, who predeceased her several years ago, was one of the pioneers of the llax industry in Foxtou and took a great interest in local affairs. Mrs Austin arrived in the district about 40 years ago and subsequently returned toWelliugton but again settled in Foxtou in 1888. The deceased, in common with other pioneers endured many ups and downs in the strenuous early days but always looked on the bright side of things. She brought up a large family of sons and daughters and was a faithful helpmeet to her late husband and an affectionate mother. Two of her sous, the late Mr “Pert” Austin and Mr O. li. Austin, were known to almost everyone interested in the hemp industry and the former was one of the owners of the Moutoa estate. The survivors are one son Mr O. K. Austin, of Te Aroha, and four daughters, namely, Mrs Theo. Mitchell (Hamilton), Mrs T. C. Dunckley (Shannon), Mrs Park (Auckland), and Miss Austin (Auckland), The remains will be conveyed to Foxtou and will arrive by the 1.30 p.m. train on Saturday, for interment in the Foxton Cemetery, We understand a short service will be held in the Methodist Church, of which the deceased lady was a member prior to the cortege proceeding to the cemetery.
lii common with the Foxton public, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
