The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, November 29, 1910. NOTES AND COMMENTS.
When the present chairman of the Harbour Board left on a tour of the old world, we expressed the opinion that he should have resigned his seat on the Board until his return, in order to ensure full local representation and a quorum at Board meetings. At that time one or two meetings lapsed for want of a quorum. Since the chairman’s return, however, the attendance at meetings has been even more unsatisfactory despite the fact that alternate bi-monthly meetings are held at Foxton and Palmerston. Even when the last meeting was held at the latter place, to meet the convenience of members from a distance, a motor car had to be requisitioned in order to convey members to the meeting so that important business should not be shelved. Last night's meeting was short of the requisite number of members, but business was transacted which will have to be confirmed at the next meeting. This state of things is very unsatisfactory and we are afraid can only be remedied by increasing local representation on the Board. It has been decided in future to ask members to give at least 24 hours notice if they are unable to attend meetings otthe Board.
