DEATH OF LEO TOLSTOY.
Astapovo, November 20. Count Tolstoy was able on Friday to take a few spoonfuls of gruel. The catarrh is gradually disappearing, and he is conscious, but sleepy and very weak. Artificial respiratiion is being applied by the doctor attending the Count. St. Petersburg, November 20, After Count Tolstoy’s second cardiac attack yesterday morphine was injected. The Countess was admitted to the bedside this morning, but her husband did not recognise her, A later message states that the first attack lasted twenty minutes. The Count became conscious in the evening and slept. A second seizure came on in the early morning, and he again slept. He did not regain consciousness, and died at 6 in the morning.
