The Waterworks Committee of the Levin Borough Council is reconsidering the question of making ku alternative offer to supply Foxton with water, and the Foxtou Council is to be asked to meet a committee of the Levin Borough Council to hear their views on the question. In our opinion a conference on this subject will be so much waste ol time, in view of the fact that good artesian water can be supplied to the borough by the N. Z. Hemp Process and By-Pro-ducts Company at a cost that would immediately put the Levin proposition out of the running. Besides, we have an abundance, of artesian water, and failing that a river filtration scheme must be considered in prelerence to any costly dual system with Levin. We are not satisfied that the last attempt to carry the water and drainage proposals was a fair test. The Mayor and Council, as a whole, lacked enthusiasm on the subject—it was only a half-hearted attempt. If the same proposals were submitted to the ratepayers now we have every reason to believe that the scheme would be carried. Surely it is high time for Foxton to rid itself of the present primitive arrangements in respect to water and drainage.
