S. Stewart. It was decided to commence the competition for the Austin Shield on the 23rd instant, when Foxton will play Himatangi ou the Park pitch. The balance of the fixtures will be drawn up at a meeting of the Association to be held on the 23rd inst. Other minor matters were arranged and the meeting terminated.

The members of the Foxton Cricket Club held a very successful practice on the Park pitch yesterday afternoon. There was a good muster and some of the players showed fairly good form. With plenty of practice the local team should be able to put a fairly strong eleven in the field.

The South African cricketers opened their Australian tour well defeating South Australia, last year’s shield winners, by no less than 281 runs. Nourse batted brilliantly, scoring 2or uot out iu South Africa’s second innings. Strieker also got over the century mark, scoring 146. The South Australians were not at home with the visiting trundlers’ “googlies,” and consequently did uot make anything like the stand that it was anticipated they would.
