SCENE IN FRENCH CHAMBER.
SOCIALIST OUTBURST AGAINST THE PREMIER. Paris, October 30. The debate on the Government’s action in connection with the recent railway strike was productive of disorderly and passionate scenes in the Chamber of Deputies. M. Jaures, Socialist, asserted that M. Viviani, Minister for Labour, was resigning because his colleagues were “prisoners to the force of money and reaction.” M. Miviani denied this statement. M. Briand, the Premier, amid constant inteiruptious, justified the issue of the decree tor the mobilisation of the railwaymen when they were only too glad to seize on a pretext to escape from the oppressive tyranny of their leaders. It was impossible for the country to keep her frontiers open, and if necessary the Government would have had recourse to illegal measures to suppress the strike. Members on the extreme Left shook their fists, shouting, “ Dictator ! Resign!” M. Briand remained on the tribune for half an hour, the target of Socialist abuse, which necessitated the adjournment of the debate.
