HYDRO-ELECTRICAL POWER.
AND THE FLAXMILLING INDUSTRY.
Mr W. H. Gunning, of Shannon, has received the following letter from the New Zealand Flaxmillers’ Association, whose headquarters are at Palmerston North, in connection with the proposal to harness district rivers for the purpose of providing electrical energy: —“At the executive meeting of the New Zealand Flaxmillers’ Association held to-day, Mr Liggins brought up the matter of harnessing the Tokomaru and Mangaonoho rivers. lam requested to ask you to furnish the lollowing information ; —(1) What is the total horse-power available from the Tokomaru river? (2) Total horse-power available from the Mangaonoho river. (3) Initial cost of installation per horse power. (4) Estimated cost per horse-power per hour. This Association is in entire sympathy with the electrical scheme. If a conference is to be held in this connection at any time, will you kindly see that the members of this association are invited to attend ? For your information I am instructed to say that the power required to run the mills within a radius of about fifteen miles from the Tokomaru falls will be about 3000 brake horsepower.—R. W.
