TWO MEN ESCAPE FROM PRISON.

PURSUERS ELUDED. WILD AND BITTER NIGHT. Invkrcargiu,, October 28. Another escape from Invercargil prison occurred this afternoon, when Albert Edward McQueen and Henry Gordon, who had*”been working in the cement block-making sheds at the rear of the gaol, broke away and made across North road and the golf links to Thompson’s Bush The bush was beaten, and the escapees were sighted several times, but eluded their pursuers, who gave up the chase when night came on. McQueen, who is an Invercargillite, knows the country thoroughly, and will probably be hJtd to catch. He was sentenced at ihe last Supreme Court sittings here to seven years’ imprisonment for assault with intent. Gordon was sentenced at Christchurch to nine months’ imprisonment, of which period all but two months had been served. The night is a bitter one, with hail and rain showers (almost identical with the conditions on the night of the last escape), and as the escapees have only trousers and singlets on they will probably suffer unless McQueen's local knowledge is turned to good account. Up to a late hour to night nothing further was heard of the prisoners.
