PARLIAMENT.
The end of the session is the question now uppermost in the minds of Parliamentarians. A number incline to the view that business cannot be concluded before the end of November. The disposal of the estimates last week helps the position materially. The principal items to be dealt with now are the Land Bill, Gaming Act Amendment, Licensing Act Amendment, Tramway Act Amendment, Harbours Act Amendment, Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act Amendment, the Public Works Statement, and the Supplementary Estimates. All the measures mentioned will be debated on the second reading or upon receipt from Select Committees. In the House on Thursday the Prime Minister said it was proposed to go on with the following Bills: Animals’ Protection Amendment Bill, Kaiapoi Reserve Bill, River Boards Amendment Bill, Opium Amendment Bill, Taranaki Scholarships Amendment Bill, Inspection of Machinery Amendment Bill, Harbours Amendment Bill (No. 2), Kattri Gum Industry Amendment Bill, Municipal Corporations’ Amendment Bill, Local Bodies’ Loans Amendment Bill (No. 2), Destitute Persons’ Bill, National Provident Fund Bill, Judicature Amendment Bill, Legislature Amendment Bill (No. 2), Licensing Amendment Bill, Education Reserves Amendment Bill, Hospital and Charitable Institutions Amendment Bill, Laud Laws Amendment Bill, Companies Amendment Bill, Rating Act Amendment Bill, Agricultural and Pastoral Societies Amendment Bill, Crown Suits Amendment Bill, Taicri Laud Drainage Bill, and a Libel Bill.
