AERONAUTICS.

New York, Oct. 22

The international aviation meeting opens at New York on Saturday. Mr Grahame-White and Mr James Hadley, the noted English aviators, are among the competitors. The principal prize is the international cup, presented by Mr Gordou Bennett, proprietor of the New York Herald, for a hundred kilometres (a little over 62 miles) race.

A prize of ,£20,000 has been offered for a flight from the aviation field round the Statue of Liberty, the conspicuous landmark in the centre of New York harbour, and return to the starting point.

ASCENT AT NAPIER,

Napier, Oct. 23. In a balloon ascent from the Recreation Ground on Saturday, the aeronaut, C. J. Sebphe, ascended to a height of 2250 feet, and on the descent by parachute he landed on top of the chronic diseases ward of the Napier Hospital, smashing tour of the roof tiles.

The only injury he sustained was a slight graze on one of his knees.
