N.S.W. ELECTIONS.

♦ A STRANGE DEVELOPMENT. Svdnkv, Oct. 19. A peculiar development in the political situation is reported tonight. It is stated on good authority, though official confirmation is wanting, that the recount in the Bingera vote gives the Hon. S. W. Moore, Minister for Lands, a small majority. This would mean that the result of the election was a tie. The news came to hand after Mr Wade had handed the resignation ol the Ministry to the Governor. Mr Wade states that it it proves correct it will not alter the general situation, as even if a tie is established his party could not have commanded a majority in the House, and the proper course to adopt was to resign and give Mr McGowen the chance to form a Ministry without any further loss of time. MR McGOWEN OPTIMISTIC. SYDNEY, Oct. 20. Mr McGowen, Leader of the Labour Party, addressed a demonstrative meeting last night. He said he was not worrying at being unable to form an administration, and will be able to carry on longer than his opponents think. The victory would be even greater at the next election. The Government will move slowly, but on strong ground, and is going to succeed. RECOUNT ORDERED EOR BINGARA. Sydney, October 20. A further recount of the Bingara election has been ordered. The result is not definitely known. The Labour caucus meets tomorrow to consider the situation, and decide whether Mr McGowen or the caucus shall choose the new Ministry. (A recount in the Biugara seat, as cabled j’esterday, was in favour of the Hon. Mr Moore, Minister for Lands, by a small majority.) PROHIimONISTS DISAPPOINTED. Sydney, October 21. At the Congregational Union, the speakers deprecated the stamp of clergymen who went for political honours. The Prohibition Party is disappointed with the result of the local option vote, and demands an alteration of the law to secure State and local option, also that the vote shall apply to production as well as the sale of liquor. The elimination of the reduction issue is also demanded.
