EDUCATION BOARD.

ORDINARY MEETING

(By Telegraph-Special to Herald) Wanganui, This Day.

The ordinary meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held last night. Present Messrs Pirani (chairman), Aldridge, Bennett, Dixon, Fraser, O’Dea, Purnell and Spurdle. Mr W. H. Swauger was appointed secretary and treasurer to the Board as from October 18th, at a salary of per annum. The plans of Mr T. H. Battle lor the new technical school at Wanganui were approved, and the Chairman was authorised to arrange with Mr Battle to act as architect for the erection of the building. Mr J. D. Anderson of Wanganui, was appointed examiner of candidates for certificates in bookkeeping in connection with the technical schools. The application from Rougotea Committee for tank and fencing was referred to the Chairman. In reference to the Ashhurst drainage, the Chairman and Mr Bennett were given authority to deal with same. Mr Guthrie M.P., reported having secured a site of 4* acres for new school in Palmerston West. The question of inviting competitive designs for the new infants school and Board offices was held over till next meeting. The meeting adjourned till 7th November.
