ALLEGED ARSON.
YOUNG MAN ARRESTED Dunedin, September 27. George Ernest Tapp, aged about eighteen years, was arrested by Detective Ward this afternoon on a charge that he did, on the sth inst., at Ravensbourue, set fire to a building, the property of Edward Croslaud. The fire broke out in Crosland’s bakery, in which the young man was employed. He was the only one on the premises, and he extinguished the fire. A sack, saturated with kerosene, was found by Tapp under the floor, and it was about a quarter burnt through, and there was a bottle containing kerosene near by. Mr Graham, coroner, held an inquiry to day into the circumstances connected with the fire, and returned a verdict “ that the place was wilfully set on fire by Tapp,” as a result of which Detective Ward, who conducted the inquiry, immediately arrested him. Accused was brought up in the Police Court and remanded until Wednesday week, bail being allowed, accused in his own recognisance of ,£l5O, and two sureties of £75 each.
