The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, August 30, 1910. NOTES AND COMMENTS.

Somk time since we announced that Mr Ed. Newman M.P. for Manawatu, was not enjoying very good health. Owing t® a severe indisposition our member was unable to record his vote on the no-confidence motion. Recently we received a letter from Mr Newman, in which he stated that he was feeling much better. A rumour to the effect that he had decided not to seek re-election next year, has been in circulation in Wellington during the past day or two. The alleged reason for this was, according to the rumour, that Mr Newman’s health, had given way under the strain of his Parliamentary duties. When questioned as to whether there was any truth in the rumour, Mr Ne.wmangave it an unqualified denial.
