The curb the alleged reckless extravagance now reported in all parts of the United States, and of which tne motor car mania is one of the most pronounced symptoms, the bankers of the Kansas City and those of the South-West who are dependent on the Kansas City banks have agreed to lend no money to anyone who intends to itse the cash to buy a motor car. This boycott, says the Kansas representative of the New York World, is brought about by the wastefulness of the Kansas people in buying automobiles. The sum ,£6,500,000 was invested in motor cars last year in Kansas. One of the Kansas City bankers said that his safe contained fiftytwo real estate mortgages, the money for which he knew went for automobiles. In many parts of the country the possession of a motor car, it is complained, seems to be the test of a man’s solvency, and debtors maintain that to purchase a machine, so far from being waste, is economy because his credit in the eyes of the world improves immediately.
