FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE HONOURED.
London, August 16. The army has expressed a desire that the body of Miss Florence Nightingale should be buried in Westminster Abbey. However, it is not likely that this will be done. John Finegan, who acted as Miss Nightingale’s orderly in the Crimean War, died to-day. The King telegraphed to Florence Nightingale’s relatives his and Queen Mary’s deep regret. “ We practically owe the present organisation of trained nurses to her striking example,” added the King. French papers pay generous tributes to her memory. The London ' Telegraph says Florence Nightingale, in her will, asks tor a quiet funeral, but the opinion is growing that a public funeral, for a heroine equal to Jeanne d’Arc, is a national duty. Latkr. The executors of Miss Florence Nightingale’s will have declined the offer of the Dean ot Westminster for that lady’s burial in Westminster Abbey.
