UP AMONG THE CLOUDS.
London, August 13. At the Lanark aviation meeting Mr J. A. Drexel, one of the principal prize-winners at the Bournemouth carnival (July nth to 16th), established a world’s altitude record on Thursday, when he aeroplaned to a height of 6750 feet. In an Interview Mr Drexel said that while he was climbing on the breezes among the clouds his limbs felt the effects of the increasing cold, and in the last 350 feet they were quite benumbed. The rarefaction of the air, also, was a source of trouble, causing the engine to “ split,” and it was not possible to go any higher. The descent was made in perfect safety, the time occupied being approximately four minutes.
