SPAIN AND THE VATICAN.
Madrid, August 8. San Sebastian is calm, the military having cowed the many incoming fanatical peasants. Cardinal Merry Del Val has instructed the Spanish bishops to prevent demonstrations and disorders, hoping that Signor Canalejas will believe that the Vatican will not seek to use the antidynastic elements or Carlist organisers, which are behind the clerical demonstrations.
