THE BOROUGH COUNCIL AND POUNDKEEPER’S COTTAGE.

[to the editor.J Sir, —On the 6th inst. the Council issued the following to the c irpenters in Foxton : “Please quote a price for verandah round two sides of pound cottage, 5 feet. Price required by 7 p.m. on Monday, the nth July, 1910, with spouting and two coats of paint.’’ Now, sir, there were no plans or specifications issued, but 1 see by your report of the Council meeting that the Council received three tenders, Messrs Rimmer, ,£24 ; Speirs, 8s ; and my tender of 15s. and the Council accepted the highest tender because Mr Rimmer sent plans with his tender. Now, sir, I want to know who told Messrs Rimmer and Speirs to enclose plans, etc., when sending in their tender. If the Council wanted tenderers to send plans with their tender why did they not say so in the circular they sent out ? I could have sent in plans as well as Messrs Rimmer and Speirs. I think if senior Councillor Coley had been at the meeting he would have had something to say before the highest tender was accepted. Thanking you in anticipation,—l am, etc., A. JONSON. Foxton, July 13th, 1910.
