ALBION (14), v. MANAWATU (o).
The last match of the second round of the competition for the Austin Shield was played on the racecourse on Saturday when Albion defeated Mauawatu by 14 points to nil. The visitors had by for the heavier team and in the scrums pushed their opponents about with ease. The Albion forwards however, by their better knowledge of the game, held their own outside tight play. The first spell was fairly even and it was not until almost the end of it that Albions were able to get over the line, Bowe scoring from a forward rush. The shot at goal was a failure. This was the only score in the first half. In the second spell Albions livened up and bad things mostly their own way, putting on three tries, one of which was converted by Perewhiti. As was the case the previous Saturday the game was commenced late and was finished in the dusk.' Mr G. Nicholson, of Bulls, refereed.
The position of the senior teams in local competition is as follows :

Two local school boys, McDonnell and Fraser have been chosen in the Manawatu school reps, to play Taihape District High School at Palmerston, on Saturday next. The local half, W. Baker, just missed a place in the team by the toss of a coin in favour of Mexted, of Feilding,
The local school football first fifteen journeyed to Levin on Saturday last and tried conclusions with the Levin District High School boys and suffered defeat by 16 points to nil after a very interesting game. An effort was made to arrange a match with a primary school t team but this could not be managed and so the local lads were pitted against a particularly clever set of boys who threw the ball about with much skill and judgment. The local lads thoroughly enjoyed the outing and were hospitably entertained at lunch. Mr Jackson, headmaster, who was in charge of the boys, speaks highly of their conduct. A return match will be played at Fbxton in about three weeks time.
