SOCIAL.

A very enjoyable social was held in All Saints’ schoolroom on Thursday night in aid of the piano fund. There was a very fair attendance and the musical programme was much appreciated. In the absence of the vicar, Mr W. S. Stewart occupied the chair and in opening the proceedings stated that Mesdames Barber (2) and Jenks had undertaken to provide the school with a piano. They had met with success in canvassing for subscriptions and a very small amount was now owing on the instrument which the ladies hoped to hand over to the vestry free of debt. He spoke in praiseworthy terms of their efforts. He called upon Miss Jenks to formally open the piano with an instrumental item, which she did in her usual finished style. Mr Betty’s orchestra followed with an overture. Songs were contributed by Mesdames J. Robinson, Boyes, Swannel, Misses Signal and Barber, and items by the Glee Party (Mesdames Boyes, Jenks, Clemett, A. Jenks, Misses Jenks, Signal and Messrs A. Jenks, Buclass and Betty). Instrumental items were given by Mr Simmons (violin) and Moran (flageolet). Mrs Stevenson and Mr Clemett recited. A vote of thanks was accorded to the performers and refreshments were handed round-
