MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
QUARTERLY RETURNS,
The Clerk of the Court (Mr F. Woods) has supplied us with the following returns of the business transacted at the local Magistrate’s Court for the quarter ended June 30th,19x0; — During the quarter three sittings were held, presided over by the Magistrate, and 21 were presided over by Justices. Thirty-two persons were arrested or summoned ; one was discharged for want of evidence, three dismissed on merits, two summarily convicted, eleven fined, one imprisoned, eleven orders made, and three convicted and discharged. The amount of criminal fees paid f in stamps was 9s.
The number of civil cases dealt with by the Magistrate was 36. The amount sued for was 12s Bd, and the amount recovered X2s iid. Two applications were heard in chambers. The number of plaints issued was 51, distress warrants three, judgment summonses 7, orders on judgment summonses x. Eighty summonses were served by the bailiffs, and six distress warrants were executed. Civil fees amounting to Four old age pensions were also granted.
