The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, June 30, 1910. A CAUSTIC CRITIC.
Cr Dr McKenzie, during the course of an interview with a representative of the Levin paper on Foxtou’s refusal to draw its water supply from Levin, said: “Foxton had been offered water at 6d per 1000 gallons, which was the lowest price ever paid by one borough to another for water in this dominion. On reading the report in the paper he came to the conclusion that Foxton councillors were hysterical over the question. He was satisfied that at present they did not intend to put in a water supply. If they had wanted a water supply they would have approached Levin relative to the matter and held some kind of friendly conference.” In conclusion Councillor Mackenzie said : “During the past twelve years Foxton’s population has not perceptibly increased. That of Levin has increased from 400 to nearly 2000. There has been little progressive spirit shown in Foxton ; Levin has gone ahead simply through the energy and push of the people. Possibly the germ laden tanks will satisfy Foxton for some years to come.”
