AMATEUR DRAMATIC SOCIETY.
A LIVELY MEETING
A meeting of the local Amateur Dramatic Society was held in the Council Chamber on Thursday evening, for the purpose of discussing a notice of motion by Mr Boyes to rescind the motion passed at the previous meeting to the effect that the “Pickpocket” be staged on July 6th, in aid of the school ground improvement fund. Dr. Adams presided and there was an attendance of about 20 members.
There was a long and at times rather heated discussion on the motion which was eventually carried by a fairly substantial majority, the only ones who voted against it being Messrs Dr. Adams, McCall and Whibley. A number of those present however did not exercise their vote.
After the passing of the motion there was a desultory discussion in which personalities were rather freely indulged in, and a suggestion was made that the Society should disband. As an outcome of the remarks made, two prominent membere signified their intention of severing their connection with the Society.
The meeting terminated shortly afterwards without any further business being transacted.
