FOOTBALL.
Yesterday the local school football team in charge of the headmaster, journeyed to Palmerston North to try conclusion with the Campbell Street school first fifteen. The game was played on the High School ground, which was in a very muddy state. However, notwithstanding the condition of the ground, a first-class exhibition of school football was given. In forward play the home team had slightly the best of it, but the Foxton backs were superior to their opponents in every department. The game resulted in a win for Campbell Street by 9 points (3 tries) to 5 fa goal from a try). Boon, the Campbell Street wing forward was far and away the best forward on the ground, and scored the three tries for his side. For Foxton, McDonnell scored a try which was converted by Victor Betty. Mr C. H. Warden, assistant master at Campbell School, owing to the unavoidable absence of the referee appointed, officiated as referee and gave every satisfaction to both teams. The referee afterwards complimented the Foxton boys on their fine exhibition, especially mentioning Walter Baker (halt), Garnet Fraser and Cecil Robinson (five-eights) and Henry McDonnell (centre three-quarters.)
The team and barrackers were most hospitably entertained at dinner by the Campbell Street boys.
A return match will be played in the near future.
