EDUCATION DISTRICTS.
A conference of members of the Chamber of Commerce, representives of other local bodies, School Committee, and the Wanganui Education Board was held in Palmerston North on Thursday evening in connection with the proposals for the formation of a separate education district for Palmerston North.
Mr Nash, Mayor of Palmerston North, moved in the' direction suggesting to the Government that a new education district should be formed between the Rangitikei and Otaki rivers, and extending eastward as far as Danuevirke and Pahiatua with Palmerston North as its headquarters, but withdrew the motion in favour of the following resolution which was carried unanimously: “ That the Government be asked to take into consideration the advisability of recasting the education districts of the North Island with a view to increasing their efficiency and reducing their expenditure, and that the Kducation Board of Wanganui be asked to place the question before the Educational Conference for discussion and suggestion.”
Mr Nash stated that at a future Educational Conference they could discuss the question of Palmerston’s position.
