NONPAREIL CYCLE ROAD RACE.

WON BY F. MILLS. The results of the cycle road race held at Palmerston North on Wednesday are eminently satisfactory to the promoters, the Nonpareil Cycle and Motor Co., Coleman Place, Palmerston N. The course was twice round the Bunuythorpe—Kairanga block, a distance of 22 miles, and the road was very heavy in places. The credit of the firm’s cycles winning three prizes out of the total of five, including fastest and second fastest time, is therefore all the more pleasing, proving the easyrunning qualities of the machines that are rapidly becoming famous in this district. Great amusement was caused during the wait for the final round by the appearance of a cyclist riding one of the old time high cycles with solid tyres, commonly termed in the Old Country the “penny farthing." The sight ot this curiosity caused a lot of comment, especially by some of the old colonists, who busily discussed their own experiences on these “ grid-irons,’’ as most of them termed them.

The following are the winning competitors, handicaps, and times : —F. Mills, i2miu. handicap, ihr. 14mm. 35sec., first; A. A. V. Williams, gmin. handicap, ihr. Xsmiu. 23sec., second ; A. Danielson, ymin. handicap, ihr. i3tnin. aqsec., third. The winner, F. Mills, secures the first prize, a Nonpareil special road racer, value 14 guineas; second prize, set of tyres, presented by the Continental Rubber Co., value £3, goes to A. A. V. Williams : the third prize, a pair of track racing single tube tyres, presented by the Nonpareil Cycle and Motor Coy., was won by A; Danielson. The fastest time prize, a Nonpareil gold medal, value 2 guineas, was secured by J. Coulter, and A. Danielson secured the second fastest time prize, a trophy value half a guinea, presented by Mr C. W. Merrylees, The promoters desire to thank Messrs Colliugwood (handicapperl, Hancock (referee), Wishart and Stubbs (timekeepers) and other officials whose indefatigable efforts undoubtedly helped to make the race a success, and whose decisions gave every satisfaction.
